Child Education Policy

1. Eligibility and Coverage

As part of the benefits extended by Good Shepherd International School (“GSIS”), one child of an eligible Employee shall be entitled to free education at GSIS for the duration of the Employee’s active employment with the School.

This entitlement applies to any curriculum and grade offered by the School, except Grades 10 and 12, for which the School does not accept new student intake.

This benefit is available only while the Employee remains in active service with GSIS and shall automatically cease upon termination, resignation, or cessation of employment, for any reason whatsoever.

2. Nature of the Benefit

The free education benefit is not a cash allowance or cash equivalent. It is strictly non-encashable, non-transferable, and cannot be converted into any form of reimbursement.

The Employee shall not be entitled to claim or receive reimbursement of fees in respect of a child enrolled in any other school or educational institution.

3. Costs Borne by the Employee

Notwithstanding the foregoing, the Employee shall remain responsible for the following costs relating to the education of their child/children:

a. Purchase of a school-issued Chromebook, which is mandatory for all students, as GSIS is standardized on the Chromebook platform. The School will facilitate procurement at bulk-purchase rates, which are lower than prevailing market prices.

b. School uniforms, as prescribed by GSIS from time to time.

c. Textbooks, reference materials, and other stationery items required for academic purposes.

d. External examination fees, where applicable.

Please note: This is not an exhaustive list as other costs may arise from time to time.

4. Application of School Policies

The child/children of the Employee enrolled at GSIS shall be subject to all rules, regulations, and policies applicable to other students, including but not limited to:

a. Adherence to the School’s guidelines, rules for parents, and student code of conduct.

b. Execution of all required contracts, including the Boarding School Contract, by the Employee in their capacity as parent/guardian, on the same terms as any other parent.

c. Compliance with boarding requirements, whereby the child shall reside in the designated boarding house alongside other students and may return home with the Employee only during School-approved breaks and vacations.

5. General Provisions

The Employee acknowledges and agrees that this benefit is discretionary in nature, forms part of the employment relationship only during active service, and does not create any vested, continuing, or post-employment right beyond the tenure of employment with GSIS.

The School reserves the right to amend, modify, or withdraw the terms of this policy at its sole discretion, subject to applicable law.

6. Minimum Service Commitment and Recovery of Fees

a. Any Employee who avails the Child Education Policy hereby agrees to a minimum service commitment of three (3) continuous years with GSIS from the date the child commences free education under this policy.

b. In the event that the Employee resigns from employment before completion of the three-year service commitment, the Employee shall be liable to repay GSIS the full school fees applicable for the child’s education availed during the period of employment.

c. For clarity:

  • If the Employee completes one (1) year of service and resigns, the Employee shall be liable to repay the fees equivalent for one year of free education that was availed.
  • If the Employee completes two (2) years of service and resigns, the Employee shall be liable to repay the fees equivalent to the two years of free education that was availed.

d. The applicable fees for recovery shall be calculated at the prevailing full fee structure applicable to the child’s grade, curriculum, and boarding status at the time of recovery.

e. Full settlement of the recoverable fees under this clause shall be a precondition for issuance of the Employee’s No Dues Certificate, Relieving Letter, and Experience Certificate.

f. Any waiver, relaxation, or deviation from this clause shall be granted only as a written exception by the Management of GSIS, and no implied or past practice shall be construed as a precedent.
